Senator Gillibrand Argues for Cap and Trade in WSJ Op-Ed

There are two strange things about Senator Gillbrand’s Op-Ed today in favor of cap and trade legislation.

1. It is in the Wall Street Journal. You generally don’t see Democrats who may be susceptible to a primary challenge pen articles for conservative newspapers.

2. The angle she takes is off the beaten path. She basically says that cap and trade is good for New York City because the city’s “financial talent” is uniquely suited to handle such a large commodities market. Somehow I don’t think this angle will draw much support outside of Wall Street.

That is neither the outlet — nor the angle — I would use to argue for cap and trade legislation. Then again, I’m no Kirsten Gillibrand.
